Unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, the Vertrek Concept previews Ford’s next global compact SUV, set to replace both the European Kuga and North American Escape models. While it’s not so different compared to the Kuga, the concept car is certainly more modern than the current Ford Escape.

Both the Chevrolet Equinox and the Ford Escape come with a standard 36 month/60,000 kilometer warranty. The powertrain warranty on the Equinox is 60 months or 160,000 kilometers compared to 60 months or 100,000 kilometers for the Escape. The Equinox also provides courtesy transportation for an extended period of time. Both vehicles are front wheel drive, although other options are available. When it comes to fuel economy, the Equinox comes in first with 9.2L/100km in the city and 6.1L/100km on the highway. The Ford Escape gets 10L/100km in the city and 7.1L/100km on the highway. Considering that the Equinox has more horsepower than the Escape, that is actually a significant difference in fuel usage.

The 2010 Escape will be the next generation small SUV segment with endless performance and loads of power. The model, yet to be released has scored best results in the crash tests. The new safety features that are expected to be included in the SUV helps the driver in safety, reduce driver distractions on the road and parking.

The Curb, which is the seventh vehicle (hence the HCD-12 codename) to be designed at the company’s California Design Center, is motivated by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with direct injection tech, mated to Hyundai's Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) [wonder what the VW Group has to say about the abbreviation...]. The force-fed motor develops 175 horsepower and 169 lb. ft. of torque. Hyundai said that by adding Idle Stop and Go (ISG) technology, the Curb would deliver 30+ mpg in the city and 40+ mpg on the highway.

In the last year i.e. in 2009, when Hyundai's Nuvis concept made its world debuted in the New York Auto Show. People got a fair glimpse of the motor giant's future motives. Built on a platform that was designed in-house by Italdesign Giugiaro, the EV concept model features a 45 kW (75kW peak power) electric motor that can be recharged by a 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine.
